Beechholme

Steven Harris, in writing about his life in Beechholme – a children’s home with a rather notorious reputation – and his later careers in the piano industry and teaching profession, covers numerous interesting issues, themes and characters that will hold appeal and intrigue for many readers. These include wonderful escapes to Cornwall, living in the modern New Town of Stevenage, and later meeting some quirky and amusing clients in Harrods, where he once worked as a piano technician. But ‘care’ would again raise an unwelcome head when his composer father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s – a disease that left him unable to talk, walk, eat or indeed seat himself in a chair of his choosing. That is not to say there aren’t moments of reward and humour in Beechholme, for it is a story of hope and success also.
